ENGLISH VERSION see below

Election of the PhD representatives 2013

On 24 January 2013 the members of the Potsdam Graduate School elected the PoGS’ PhD representatives at the annual general assembly. Our current PhD representatives, Carsten Brockmann and Hosnieh Rafiee, offered to join the team again, together with our new representative Sarah Haase.

One of the rights as representatives - just as the word implies – is the representation of PhD candidates in the Council of the Potsdam Graduate School, which meets twice a year. They thus secure the greater voice of our members in the development and orientation of the Potsdam Graduate School. Optional tasks can consist of representing at official events of the Potsdam Graduate School or the management of the informal meeting of PhD students. In exchange with the team the Potsdam Graduate School they help shape our services for the Potsdam doctoral students.

We would like to give you a short presentation of our current PhD representatives:

I am a member of PoGS representation, because ...

The PoGS enabled me to have exceptional experiences, etc. participation in two major international confereces. Through my work on the advisory board, I would like to help others to make this experience. As well as maintaining and extending the existing spectrum, I see the PoGS pioneering focus in the field of networking and scholarship advice on additional funding opportunities.

I am a member of PoGS representation, because ...

  •  I want to discuss the issues and problems we PhD students have and to be able to find the right people to work with in resolving these issues and problem
  • I want to learn more about the PoGS programs and to share my ideas about them in order to improve them to meet the needs of the PhD students
  • I want to meet with other PhD students at the university in order to establish something like a research council or working group for each area of research. This would enable students with like areas of interest to come together as a group to share their knowledge and to help each other in resolving any research problems or issues that they may have

Why would I like to get involved as PoGS PhD representative?

I think that the support for graduate students through various activities such as seminars, interdisciplinary communication groups, guidelines, and help with specific doctoral issues, significantly contributes to a successful dissertation project. Personally I value the exchange with other PhD students very much and notice how profitable the visit of seminars can be, that are specifically tailored to the needs of doctoral students.

Through my experience in Paris, I can compare the doctoral supervision in another EU country with the one in Germany, and can add ideas and suggestions for the University of Potsdam.
