Interdisciplinary PhD Symposium 2011 - Information about the submission of presentation or posters

PRESENTATION

Your talk should take approximately 10 minutes. Afterwards 5 minutes are scheduled for questions or discussion. The three best presentations will be awarded. An interdisciplinary jury will select the winners.

POSTER

Your poster should have about DIN A0 format. If you cannot print the poster at your own institute it is possible to get your poster printed at the AVZ via Potsdam Graduate School. If you wish to do that, you must submit the poster no later than October 26, 2011 to Potsdam Graduate School. The collection of your poster is off one’s own bat. The three best presentations will be awarded. An interdisciplinary jury will select the winners.

Hint: A multidisciplinary referee group will decide about the acceptation of your contribution to the PhD symposium. Please arrange your presentation in a way that also non-specialists could clearly understand your work.

SCIENCE SLAM

Do you like to fill an audience with enthusiasm in a very short time for your scientific research? Then take part at the science slam. You will have time to present your doctoral dissertation or part of it during 4 minutes as a popular scientific lecture and to unbolt the audience’s heart. You can decide on your own how you like to arrange the lecture. Not only the scientific content will decide but also an understandable and entertaining performance of your scientific research. The audience will elect the best performance.

PLEASE ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING STYLE SHEET WHEN WRITING YOUR ABSTRACT

The structure of the abstract can be determined by the author, but the format must be as follows:

Font: Arial
Fontsize: 11 pt
Line Spacing: 1,5 lines
Margin: side margins 2,5 cm, top and bottom margin 2,0 cm
Length of Abstract: 1 page maximum
Language: German or English
Title: fat, 13 pt, centered
Author: first name, last name, 12 pt, centered
Institute: 11 pt, in italics, centered
Email address: 10 pt, centered
Chapter titles (p.e. introduction, material and method, conclusion): 11 pt, fat, left-aligned
Text: center justification

SELECTION CRITERIA OF THE PRESENTATIONS

An interdisciplinary expert group composed of PhD candidates will select the presentations for the PhD symposium. The following selection criteria are binding:

-          General understanding/interdisciplinary understanding

-          Logical structure of the presentation (visible thread)

-          Observing the formal guideline
